Dear Manor Woods Community,
As we move through the fall season, we have a lot of events going on this month. I would like to bring to your attention the graphic below. Please use this refrigerator worthy graphic to encourage your children to participate in our “Chillin’ in Autumn” spirit week. The more participants we have, the more fun we will have as we move through the end of the quarter.
I would also like to highlight other October events. Our children will be participating in a school-wide celebration at the end of October or beginning of November for their positive behaviors while following our DUCK expectations. They’ve been doing an amazing job moving their duck within their classroom by Doing their best, being Upstanders, showing Compassion, and being Kind. Trust me, it’s going to be so much fun, you will hear about it the minute they come through the door.
Lastly, our PTA is planning a few celebrations as well. Manny the Duck will take a ride through the neighborhoods on Thursday, October 27th during the Boo-Mazing Parade. Look for more details as this will be an evening event. The Duck Dash is scheduled for November 4th and will be during the school day.
Finally, our PTA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee is preparing a night to experience Hispanic Heritage. This event will be on October 12th from 6-8pm and all families are encouraged to attend.
Kindly,
Carol DeBord, Principal
Jennifer Zinn, Assistant Principal

MAP Testing
September 19 - October 20, 2022, students in grades 1-5 will be participating in the Fall administration of the MAP assessment. MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is an untimed, computer-adaptive assessment that provides our teachers with specific information about where your child is performing in reading and mathematics. Teachers use this information to drive instruction in the classroom. Although the assessment is untimed, students typically finish each session in approximately one hour. You do not need to do anything special to prepare your child for the MAP assessment other than ensure that they have a good breakfast and a good night’s rest the night before. We do ask that you avoid scheduling appointments on the day when your child will be assessed. Students who are absent on the day their grade takes the assessment will be afforded the opportunity for a make-up session on another date.
Parents will receive a report on their child’s performance on the MAP assessment in the coming weeks. More information about MAP, how it is scored, and how you can interpret your child’s performance is available at https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/map-information/ .

MWES Reminder Drop Off Time: 8:30 am, Late Bell Rings: 8:45 am, Dismissal: 3:15 pm ABSENT NOTE When your child is absent, please send an email on the day your student returns to the following address: Please send an email to the above address with your child's name, the date of absence and the reason for the absence. If a reason is not included, the absence will be considered unlawful. You may copy your child's teacher on the attendance email if you'd like. We appreciate your help to ensure that our children are marked accurately on their attendance record. Late Arrivals If you arrive at 8:45 AM or after, you MUST park your car in the big parking lot, and walk your child to the building to sign in with a staff member. This is for the safety of your child. Tardies are tracked on your student(s) report card. School opens at 8:30 am. If your student isn't in their classroom by the late bell (8:45 am), he/she is considered late. You must accompany your child to and from the building each time your child has a late arrival. Early Dismissals Please bring your drivers license. If your student has an early dismissal, please make certain he/she is picked up before 3:00 pm to make certain you are out before our buses begin to arrive. Early dismissals cannot be conducted after 3:00 pm. If you arrive after 3:00pm, you will need to wait in the car loop line until our regular dismissal begins. It is best to alert your child(s) teacher and the front office regarding early dismissals ahead of time. We would also like for you to provide a note each day your child has an after-school activity. This helps the teacher and your child remember the activity on a weekly basis. MWES Veterans Day Recognition We would like to honor all military veterans that are related to Manor Woods families. If you would like to honor a family member or friend, please complete this form no later than Friday, October 14th. We will display these names in our school during Veterans Day in November.
