Happy Friday MWES Families!
Just a reminder next week HCPSS schools will be closing early. Schools dismiss three hours early Monday, June 12, Tuesday, June 13 and Wednesday, June 14. No Half-Day Pre-K/RECC.
MWES Dismissal time is promptly at 12:15 p.m. Last day of school for all students will be Wednesday, June 14. Please view the HCPSS calendar for more information: https://www.hcpss.org/calendar/

Did You Move? Are You Moving?
According to HCPSS Policy 9000 – Student Residency, Eligibility, Enrollment, and Assignment, “A student attending a public school in Howard County will attend the designated school serving the school attendance area in which the parents have bona fide residence.”
If you have moved or are moving soon, please notify us immediately. Please do not wait for us to find out through other means. We can assist you with the transitioning to your child’s new school. Whether it be another HCPSS school, a private school, or a school out of the HCPSS district, we are here to help. If you are transferring to another HCPSS school, our Office Staff will help make the transition as smooth as possible.
Please complete the attached fillable Address Change Form and email it back to us with your new deed or lease. We will electronically verify your school district and update your new address on file.
HCPSS Pre-K Program
The HCPSS Pre-K program is accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year with expanded eligibility criteria! Families of children aged four or five by September 1, 2023, may apply. The HCPSS Pre-K program is free to families; some locations are full-day. Families can submit a completed application to hcpss_pk@hcpss.org or their local elementary school. For an application, information about the program, and eligibility guidelines, please visit the HCPSS website or contact Early Childhood Programs at 410-313-6836. Manor Woods is a school with a Pre-K program; however, eligible families will attend at another location.

WHEN: Auditions will be held Monday evening September 11 at 4:45-6:00pm. WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE IN ADVANCE OF THE AUDITION: -No preparation required in advance, simply come prepared to learn a few measures of music & sing for our team. Be ready to demonstrate rehearsal etiquette and give our Children's Choir Director your full attention for the full time. All auditioners will be dismissed at 6pm.

Applications Now Being Accepted for HCPSS Learning Together Program
HCPSS is now accepting applications for enrollment in the Learning Together Program, in which students with and without disabilities learn and play together. Students must be 3 or 4 by Sept. 1, 2023, to be eligible.
OEIS will be offering a series of drop-in playground groups this summer & staff will be on-hand to lend extra support to families. Playground Group Locations will rotate, see flier for more details and contact information. Thank you!
Summer Curriculum Resources
The elementary curriculum offices have compiled several activities and strategies for students to enhance their learning during the summer. The resource can be found on the Canvas Parent Pages linked below. Resources can be viewed by grade level and subject. Additional resources and suggestions can also be found on the Parent Pages. These resources include games, strategy instruction tips, field trip suggestions, and much more. Please feel free to share this information with your families.
Howard County Public Library System Summer Reading Challenge: Click on the link for a summer filled with reading fun!! READsquared Reading Program
Summer Reading Bingo Challenge: Your child can practice their literacy skills all summer long with these fun activities. Have them go for five in a row or try to fill the whole board!!

Summer Reading at the Howard County Library System
Over the next few days, students will be bringing home a copy of the Howard County Library System's Summer Reading Program's gameboard. Students can start completing activities for the summer reading program right away; however, they must visit a Howard County Library System Branch to register for the game and receive their sign-up prize. Once they have completed the required number of reading activities, they will take their gameboard back to the Howard County Library to receive their finishing prize.
Fifth grade students are eligible to participate in either the elementary or the teen version of the reading program but will need to visit a Howard County Library branch to receive the teen gameboard.

HCDrugFree:
Free! Summer Life Skills Classes for grades 6 to 9 (slightly younger/older should register and wait to be contacted) taught by college students with HC DrugFree adult staff supervision. This summer, your kids will be watching and listening to the people around them, so have them learn from positive Howard County college students with high school student role models in a safe environment. Students will learn: Most Howard County kids aren't using drugs - so don't give in to "everyone is doing it" pressure; How to say no to risky behaviors while keeping their friends; How to better protect themselves from a variety of danger; and much more! We encourage siblings and friends to take these classes together, so if you have slightly younger or older students, please let us know and we will consider them as well. Summer Opportunities for High School Volunteers/Mentors: Volunteer to be part of HC DrugFree’s team of college and high school student and adult facilitators this summer. Be a role model to younger students while learning a variety of practical skills and acquiring valuable experience for future college and employment applications. Submit 2023-24 Registration Form! Join 8th–12th Grade Teen Advisory Council: Learn, Earn Community Service Hours, and Build Resume. Free. HC DrugFree’s Teen Advisory Council is open to all Howard County students in grades 8 through 12. This is a great opportunity to help prepare younger students for success in high school while allowing older students to develop their leadership and mentoring skills. Learn resiliency skills and ways to avoid risky behaviors while keeping your friends and having fun. Currently, the adult position is primarily remote, but some in-person work is currently required for events.
